Judy Minot
Music Educator, Musician, Writer
Judy Minot is a music educator, musician, writer and podcaster. In 2021 she released the award-winning book, Best Practice: Inspiration and Ideas for Traditional Musicians. The ideas of the book are supported in her blog and online videos. In 2026 she debuted her popular video podcast, Best Practice for Musicians, for which she interviews great musicians on their craft. Judy plays fiddle, piano and accordion (piano and bisonoric) in a range of styles including Irish, Québécois, jazz, and contra, and gives workshops, both in person and online, to musicians and artists all over the globe.
Judy holds a 4th degree black belt in the martial art of Kokikai Aikido, which she taught at Rutgers University for 12 years. She is also a certified yoga teacher. She is an occasional contributor (writing about Best Practice principles) to Acoustic Guitar Magazine.
Judy believes music can be a powerful force in the life of the “amateur” musician. She herself had a long and successful career in broadcast television, editing music videos, entertainment specials and documentaries, many of which can be found on IMDB. Her awards and accolades include a RIAA Platinum Video and Record, a RIAA Gold Video, a Cable Ace Award, the American Film Institute Award, and a MIDEM Mermaid Award, among others. Along the way she sang in Carnegie Hall, worked with Mariah Carey, Ozzy Osbourne and Martha Stewart, and directed Sesame Street’s Elmo.
